This program will prepare the student to become an effective care giver under the direction of an RN or MD in various health care settings, including the home.  The student will be well prepared to take the Nursing Assistant exam and become certified with the Nurse Aide Registry with the Florida Board of Nursing.

This program provides theoretical and clinical experiences necessary for the student to acquire the entry-level competencies required of a home health aide and Nursing Assistant.  Learning experiences, related to specific performance objectives, include formal classroom lectures, discussion, written and oral reports, simulated laboratory periods. It provides the student with job related competencies, employability skills and knowledge of the function, interrelatedness and needs of human body systems. Patient care activities of daily living, health and hygiene are provided for all ages in the health span, with an emphasis on gerontology.

Patient Care Procedures for Nursing Assistants

In this course students develop the skills to perform patient care procedures, such as ambulation, output measurements, patient positioning, range of motion exercises, personal care, bed making, taking vital signs, and other important functions and procedures required in patient care.

 


Post-Operative Care

This course is designed to help students understand the needs of post-operative patients. Students will learn the standard protocols, physical care and comfort, appropriate communication with post-operative patients and their families.


Rehabilitative & Geriatric Care

Students will learn the process, techniques and procedures involved in rehabilitative care. Students will learn their role in the process of rehabilitation. This course also provides training in geriatric care. Students will learn communication techniques and real world circumstances involved in caring for the elderly.
